The Rite has since become a staple of the concert repertoire, popularized in part by Walt Disney’s Fantasia. It retains the power to shock, and if you have never heard it in concert before, this concert conducted by Okko Kamu should not be missed. Equally unmissable is the return of Wang Jian, one of the finest exponents of the cello, performing Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No. 1. The concert opens with Prokofiev’s tongue-in-cheek symphonic tribute to the classical masters.
